NOTES:
This pattern is made in two sections. First, we make a mesh egg shape. Then, we crochet the "wiggles" into that mesh. Mix up the colors of the mesh and wiggles for different looks!
Ch 4 in the mesh counts as a dc and ch 1 (Rows 1 - 10).
The first ch 2 and dc in the mesh counts as a dc2tog (Rows 11 - 13). Work into the top of the dc as the final st in the next row.
When making the Wiggles, work ONLY around the mesh dc sts. Do not work into the ch-1 sps or into the edging. Only work around the dc sts that do NOT have edging sts worked around or into them.
MESH EGG INSTRUCTIONS:
Row 1: Ch 12, skip the ch closest to the hook, sc in the next ch, [ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in the next ch] 4 times, ch 1, skip 1 ch, sc in the last ch; turn. (4 dc, 2 sc)
Row 2: Ch 4, dc in first st, *ch 1, skip next ch sp, dc in next st; rep from * across, ch 1, dc again in last st; turn. (8 dc)
Rows 3 and 4: Rep Row 2. (10 dc in Row 3; 12 dc in Row 4)
Row 5 - 10: Ch 4, skip next ch sp, dc in next st, *ch 1, skip next ch sp, dc in next st; rep from * across, turn. (12 dc)
Row 11: Ch 2, skip next ch sp, dc in next st, *ch 1, skip next ch sp, dc in next st; rep from * until 2 dc rem, ch 1, skip the next ch sp, dc2tog in last 2 dc sts, skipping the ch sp in between; turn. (8 dc, 2 dc2tog)
Row 12 and 13: Rep Row 11. (6 dc in Row 12; 4 dc in Row 13)
Row 14: Ch 1, sc in the first st, [ch 1, skip the next ch sp, dc in the next st] 4 times, ch 1, skip the last ch sp, sc in the last st; turn.
MESH EDGING INSTRUCTIONS:
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc evenly around egg, working 3 sc around each outer dc post, 1 sc in the top/bottom of each of the top/bottom sts, and 1 sc in each ch sp; join and finish off. Weave in ends.
WIGGLE STRIPE INSTRUCTIONS
Work from one end of the egg (Rows 1 - 7), then turn and work the other half (Rows 14 - 8).
Stripe colors are all only worked around the dc mesh stitches that do NOT have edging stitches worked into them. Always add stripes from the RS of the egg mesh.
Leave 6-10 inch tails at the beginning and end of each stripe. These will be used for final assembly.
Each Row: With color of choice, join with dc at the top of the post of the first mesh dc stitch, 4 dc around same dc post, working from bottom to top work 5 dc around post of next st, *working from top to bottom, 5 dc around post of next st, working from bottom to top, 5 dc around post of next st; rep from * to end of row, break yarn.
FINAL ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Use the end of each strip to sew to the 4th stitch from the end of the stripe above. At Rows 7 and 8, sew the ends of the stripe together. Weave in ends.
