10 Best Characters In Helluva Boss, Ranked (2024)

Summary

  • Helluva Boss features a vibrant cast of complex demon characters living in the same universe as Hazbin Hotel.
  • Helluva Boss emphasizes themes of complicated romantic relationships among its wacky characters.
  • Blitzø, Stolas, Loona, Millie, and Moxxie are all among Helluva Boss' best characters.

Hazbin Hotel's sister series Helluva Boss features additional amazing characters, extending the cast of colorful and complex demons who populate Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano's version of Hell. Taking place in the same universe as Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss follows the adventures of the business known as I.M.P. (Immediate Murder Professionals). The intrepid team of Imps travels to the world of the living to assassinate people at the behest of their clients; however, like with Hazbin Hotel, the morbid premise of Helluva Boss is only the beginning of a story about friendship and ingenuity.

Featuring some overlap with the Hazbin Hotel cast, Helluva Boss' lineup of wacky characters showcases the different trials and triumphs of the residents of Hell. Thematically contrasting with its Amazon Prime counterpart, Helluva Boss demonstrates themes of classism — with the Imps depicted as the working class of Hell — and focuses more on complicated romantic relationships. For anyone who cannot wait for Hazbin Hotel season 2, getting to know the equally compelling cast of Helluva Boss is the perfect way to pass the time.

All episodes of Helluva Boss are available to watch on YouTube. Season 2, Episode 8, "The Full Moon" was released on May 31, 2024; the rest of season 2 is expected by the end of 2024.

10 Best Characters From Hazbin Hotel Season 1, Ranked

Hazbin Hotel features a vibrant cast of complex and heartfelt characters who highlight and oppose Charlie's mission to help Sinners find redemption.

10 Verosika Mayday (Cristina Vee)

Hell's diva pop star has a memorable Helluva Boss episode.

Blitzø’s pop star ex-girlfriend Verosika is only a major character in one episode (so far) and makes a cameo in another, but she makes an impression. While she plays an antagonistic role, Verosika has good reason to want to make Blitzø’s life miserable when he left her to pay for the hotel room, stole her car, and maxed out her credit cards. She has a diva personality similar to Stolas’ wife Stella (Georgina Leahy) but is definitely smarter and more devious.

Loona and Millie appear to be fans of Verosika, even though they help Blitzø with his bet to win his parking space back. The face-off between Verosika’s crew of succubi and I.M.P. leads to some of the funniest moments of the show in her one-off episode. Verosika doesn’t have the interiority to stand out as one of Helluva Boss’ best-written demons, but her glitzy persona and “too cool” attitude make her one of the most enjoyable supporting characters.

9 Striker (Norman Reedus/Edward Bosco)

Striker is the villain who brings "Western Energy" to Helluva Boss.

At the time of writing, Striker has served Helluva Boss well as a striking, charismatic villain — enough so to warrant his own theme song. However, he is lacking character development, first appearing in the series as an already fully-formed antagonist. Yet there are hints of Striker having a tragic past, explaining his unparalleled hatred for royal demons. While other characters are willing to work with royals, Striker is adamantly against it, likely for justifiable reasons.

Striker functioning as an ideological foil to some of the main characters would make him an even more interesting character. He already has some moments in the series where he serves this purpose, such as during his first confrontation with Blitzø. However, even if his most interesting moments are yet to come, Striker is still a fan-favorite character just by being a stylish, threatening villain.

8 Asmodeus "Ozzie" (James Monroe Iglehart)

The personification of Lust is one of Helluva Boss' most likable characters.

Ozzie also just has a fun, vibrant character design, and even some of his dialogues on lust are thought-provoking.

Ozzie is a completely lovable character, and one of the setting’s Seven Deadly Sins personifications, in his case the Sin of Lust. Ozzie sets himself up to be at the center of an amusing contradiction when he dedicates an entire song to ridiculing love in favor of unemotional lust in his first episode. However, it soon becomes clear that he is in a committed, not-so-secret romantic relationship himself.

Ozzie is generally friendly, but his ferocity and loyalty are illustrated when he faces off with Mammon (Michael Cusack). The overblown dynamic of him hiding his relationship with Fizzarolli becomes even funnier when, only a few episodes after his introduction, Ozzie is already tired of the act and has no problem declaring his love in front of everyone. Ozzie also just has a fun, vibrant character design, and even some of his dialogues on lust are thought-provoking.

7 Octavia (Barrett Wilbert Weed)

Octavia is a moody extremely relatable teenage owl demon.

Octavia’s perfect design shows exactly what a typical moody teenage girl would look like if she were also a royal owl demon. Octavia’s appearance perfectly complements her comically blasé and angry attitude, showcased during her two major episodes, where she is either mad at her dad for taking her to a kids’ theme park or forgetting their long-awaited star-gazing plans. However, in both episodes, Octavia’s outward attitude is shown to be a defense for her saddening and strikingly relatable struggles.

Octavia voices her realistic fears about her parents’ divorce in some of the most grounded moments of the series. All of it understandably stresses her out, especially when her dad is constantly distracted by fighting with her mom. Octavia also has an incredibly sweet moment with Loona that draws a parallel between their characters, leaving fans hoping for more scenes with the two of them in the future.

6 Millie (Vivian Nixon)

I.M.P.'s top assassin is just a regular woman living her best life.

Millie is a “gem of an assassin,” according to her boss, and has plenty of stunningly animated fight scenes to prove it. She usually fights with axes and knives, making her the perfect counterpart to her husband Moxxie, who specializes in guns. When she is not viciously destroying her enemies, Millie is as sweet as can be, generally agreeing with everything in the workplace, while Moxxie comes into conflict with Blitzø more often.

As the series goes on, the story reveals more layers to Millie and the things that frustrate her. She is doing her best to keep in contact with her parents and siblings after moving to the city and always supports her husband — at one point pointing out to him that she needs support in return. Millie comes across as a regular wife and employee dealing with the issues that come with these roles. She just happens to be a demon and an assassin as well.

10 Shows Like Hazbin Hotel To Watch While You Wait For Season 2

While fans are waiting for Hazbin Hotel season 2 to release, they can enjoy similar shows like Good Omens, Invader Zim, or Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

5 Loona (Erica Lindbeck)

Helluva Boss' resident Hellhound has surprising depth.

Loona is a Hellhound whom Blitzø adopted as his daughter shortly before she turned 18, creating a messy but loving family dynamic between the two of them. Loona is presumably in her early 20s around the time the series starts and tends to lash out at Blitzø and his other employees at I.M.P., where she officially works as a receptionist. However, she is a valuable addition to the team, being a powerhouse in battle and the only one with a human disguise.

Loona has a subtle character arc, where her feelings about Blitzø become more affectionate when she sees how lonely he is, and how much he wants them to be a family. She is the one to defend Stolas to Octavia, saying that while both their dads are messes, they are both trying their best. Loona is set up as a completely abrasive character in the first episodes, but may be one of the friendliest at heart.

4 Moxxie (Richard Steven Horvitz)

Millie's husband goes through drastic character development in Helluva Boss.

The last of Blitzø’s three employees, Moxxie narrowly comes out on top in terms of character growth, having undergone the most drastic development since the start of the series, while also winning points for being voiced by Invader Zim. Moxxie is initially framed as the weak link of the group, as the other three are less morally troubled than he is. Moxxie is characterized as frilly and fretful, but key moments are dark reminders that he is good enough of a killer to have caught Blitzø’s attention.

Other reveals include Moxxie’s dark past that he is trying to escape, which forces him to be more confrontational than ever. His other major character arc is with Millie, as their marriage changes once they are past the honeymoon phase. With the way Moxxie’s character arc is going, he will likely continue to become a better husband and a more dangerous assassin as the show continues.

3 Stolas (Bryce Pinkham)

Stolas is a demon prince with many different shades of his personality.

Stolas is a demon prince who allows I.M.P. to use his grimoire to access the living realm while having an ongoing sexual relationship with Blitzø. Stolas is presented as one of the better aristocratic demons when his wife and her family are comically awful; while Stolas is mostly likable, he is not perfect. He adores Blitzø even if it takes him a while to realize the problems in their relationship; he forgets some important events but is mostly a doting father who has prioritized his daughter throughout a difficult marriage.

Overall, Stolas is a flawed character who has many relatable moments, with his arc being characterized by his recent personal awakening and decision to seek happiness for himself. However, Stolas is truly a fan-favorite character because of his flamboyant, ever-changing persona. He can be gracious and elegant one moment and downright terrifying the next, with flair and theatrics to rival the best musical numbers in Hazbin Hotel.

2 Fizzarolli (Alex Brightman)

Blitzø's childhood best friend is tons of fun and emotionally complex.

Somehow, Fizzarolli’s chipper attitude and acrobatic design tie all these elements together into a coherent arc.

There are many moving pieces to Fizzarolli’s character that make him an unexpectedly major addition to the show, despite technically being a supporting character. Fizzarolli is a friend-turned-enemy-turned-friend again of Blitzø; he is a performer who only recently got out of a toxic relationship with his producer; and his happy relationship with Ozzie shows a different perspective on Blitzø’s fraught relationship with Stolas. Somehow, Fizzarolli’s chipper attitude and acrobatic design tie all these elements together into a coherent arc.

Fizzarolli has a positive outlook, correcting Blitzø that he didn’t “ruin his life” by accidentally setting off the explosion that resulted in him losing all his limbs. He might be the show's most emotionally mature character, who can articulate that it’s hard to immediately move on from his rivalry with Blitzø while still making peace with him. Fizzarolli’s dynamic character combined with being voiced by Broadway star and Hazbin Hotel-favorite Alex Brightman make him the underdog character of Helluva Boss in terms of popularity and impact.

Netflix's upcoming The Undervale looks like it could be the perfect fusion of Adult Swim's Rick & Morty and Prime Video's Hazbin Hotel.

1 Blitzø (Brandon Rogers)

Blitzø is the amazingly complicated boss in Helluva Boss.

Blitzø is the prime example of the kind of macabre humor that dominates VivziePop’s world, being deeply charismatic, wild, and ferocious. However, even while all the details of Blitzø’s backstory have yet to be revealed, he is clearly dealing with a wide range of feelings of guilt, loneliness, and inferiority. He is defensive in his relationship with Stolas, as he has reservations about being in a relationship with a prince. However, despite his tendency to shout a lot at everyone around him, Blitzø cares deeply.

Blitzø might not be sure about his relationship with Stolas, but he is pretty emotionally open with other characters, such as Loona and his sister Barbie Wire (Jinhee Joung). He likes messing with his friends/employees/family, but he won’t let anyone else do the same. Above all, Blitzø embodies some of the core themes of Helluva Boss with his determination to make his business a success despite the odds being stacked against him and the emotions troubling him, making him the series’ strongest character.
